At a press conference held Thursday, August 14, at Terre Haute International Airport Hulman Field, we were pleased to announce that we have entered into an agreement with the American Red Cross of the Wabash Valley that they will be the primary beneficiary of the Victory Days event scheduled for October 3-4-5, 2008.
The Red Cross has a meaningful tie to WWII, which we feel makes the Red Cross a perfect community beneficiary of our WWII themed event. At the peak of wartime activity in 1945, 7.5 million volunteers, along with 39,000 paid staff, provided service to the military. Throughout the war years, the Red Cross served 16 million military personnel, and the American public contributed over $784 million in support of the American Red Cross. We are honored that we can partner with them and recognize them for the valued role they played during those war years.

Darrel Zeck, Communication Director, Victory Days, and Paul King, Executive Director, Victory Days, respond to questions from the press. |
In addition to their ties to WWII, Victory Days made a commitment after the recent flooding in south and central Indiana that we would name a relief organization as a beneficiary. Again, the Red Cross of the Wabash Valley is an easy choice, as they have been tireless in offering assistance to local flood victims.
In honor of our partnership, Victory Days will donate $1 for every Victory Days advance ticket sold on-line between now and August 31. In addition to supporting the Red Cross by purchasing tickets early, the on-line tickets are also offered at a reduced cost to tickets sold at the gate. Our goal is to raise between $5000 and $10,000 this month for the Red Cross through this “early bird” special.
An auction of donated items will be held at the Oct. 3 Hangar Dinner Dance, featuring the big band, The Stardusters, and the Sisters of Swing. Ten percent of the proceeds from the auction will also go directly to the Red Cross. They will also receive a percentage of net proceeds from the entire Victory Days 2008 event.
So plan on coming out to Victory Days Oct. 3-4-5 for a fun time and to support the Red Cross.
