Victory Days Moves to Terre Haute, Indiana
I am sorry to report that the recent flooding in southern and central Indiana hit our Columbus neighbors very hard. Bartholomew County, which includes Columbus, is one of the counties that was declared a federal disaster area. Their infrastructure, including roads, bridges and the Columbus Regional Hospital, sustained catastrophic damage that will take months to repair.

Because of the damage that occurred in the city and county, they can no longer serve as the host city of Victory Days. Of course, we completely understand, and on behalf of the volunteers and Advisory Board of Victory Days, I want to express our deep regrets to our Columbus supporters for the damage their town has sustained.

At the same time, I am excited to announce that the Terre Haute International Airport has extended an offer to host Victory Days, and we are honored to accept. Although Vigo County also sustained damage in the recent flooding and is on the federal disaster list, they are able to host the event.
Having looked at the details, we found that we will be able to move Victory Days with a minimum of disruption. The support the Airport Authority and the city of Terre Haute has offered Victory Days is gratifying. In the space of a few days, the outpouring of support from the community has been amazing.
The airport, originally named Hulman Field, was created in 1943. Terre Haute businessman, Anton “Tony” Hulman, Jr., donated a 638 acre plot of ground for the airport, and it was dedicated on October 3, 1944. By coincidence, that means that on opening day of Victory Days, Terre Haute Airport will be celebrating it’s 64th year of continuous operations.

I would like to express our appreciation to Terre Haute and the Terre Haute International Airport for welcoming Victory Days to their city. We know this collaboration will lead to success for all of us.

And in the spirit of Victory Days as a 501(c) (3) charitable corporation, relief organizations will be included on our beneficiary list for the work they have done and the work yet to be done in Indiana.

~Paul N. King, President and Executive Director of Victory Days
